A band of tighter knit wraps the midfoot so the sock stays put over a long shift instead of creeping down into the shoe. This is a band of tighter knit. It is not an orthotic and it does not correct anything.

Wear rate depends on how many hours a day you wear them. Thinning at the ball after months of daily shifts is wear. A seam failing in the first weeks is a fault.
